On the Same Page: Book sale, immigration records and more at Reedsburg Public Library

Next week take advantage of opportunities to join the Library’s Friends group, attend their book sale, and brush up on your genealogy skills! Youth activities include Butterfest float building for teens and a movie day for Kids Club participants.

The Friends of the Reedsburg Public Library will be meeting on Monday, May 11, at 6 p.m. for their spring membership meeting. This is a great time for prospective new members to attend and find out what the group is all about! This meeting will feature a special music performance by local high school students, as well as an update on summer library events and the progress of the new building project. In addition, Assistant Library Director Anne Howe will demonstrate how to use the new LINKCat catalog for searching and placing holds.

The Friends of the Reedsburg Public Library Spring Book Sale is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, through Sunday, May 17, the same dates as Reedsburg’s city wide garage sale. Schedule the library among your other stops to get some great bargains! Contents of the sale include books that have been withdrawn from the library’s collection due to condition, or lack of relevance, and items generously donated for the sale. We will continue to accept donations through May 13. At the sale, items will not be marked with prices, but Friends members will gladly accept your contribution via cash, check or credit card. Volunteers are still needed for supervising the sale, as well as set up on May 12-13, and clean up on May 18. If you would like to help, contact library staff at 608-768-7323.

Proceeds from the Friends’ book sale benefit the library through the purchase of materials, equipment and support of programming supplies and performer fees.

RPL’s Local History and Genealogy group meets on Wednesday, May 13, at 1 p.m. The guest speaker (via Zoom) will be Eleanor Brinsko of Carlon Genealogical Services. She will be talking about the clues that immigration records and passenger lists reveal about our ancestors’ journeys to this country, and what sources we can use to find this information. Contact the library if you have not attended sessions before, and would like a Zoom link emailed to you.

This coming week is the last week of youth services programs until the Summer Library Program begins on Monday, June 15. On Tuesday, May 12, at 4 p.m., Teen Time participants will be designing the Library’s Butterfest float. The Kids Club group will have a special movie day on Thursday, May 14, at 4 p.m. featuring the 2023 musical prequel to “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”
