On the Same Page: Pie program, history speaker among next week’s numerous activities

Several programs are on the schedule at Reedsburg Public Library over the next week that you won’t want to miss.

Join Library Director Sue Kucher for a pie crust workshop during Mingle and Muse at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 9. She has a fail-proof method for making a homemade pie crust, a skill handed down in her family. All participants will be able to make a mini-pie! Supplies will be provided and no registration is necessary. The workshop is a great prelude to the Friends of the Library Pi(e) Day Sale on Saturday, March 14. Donated homemade pies are needed for the sale.

This year the Friends of the Reedsburg Library Pi(e) Day sale falls on a Saturday. Pi(e) Day was established in 1988 to celebrate Pi, the mathematical ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is always 3.14. On the calendar, this corresponds to March 14, and the perfect time to celebrate the edible type of pie. The sale will begin when the library opens at 9 a.m. and will continue while supplies last, until 1 p.m. Shop for all of your favorite types of pies - fruit, custard, savory or quiches. The Friends of the Library Pi(e) Committee has decided that this year’s Pi(e) proceeds will support RPL’s 2026 Summer Library Programming. For several years the Friends have supported the library with funds for the little extras that are not covered by the regular library budget. Pies can be purchased with cash, checks or credit cards.

Homemade pies are needed for the sale and can be dropped off at the library on Friday, March 13 from 1 to 4:45 or on Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. Pies should be labeled with the kind of pie, wrapped in saran wrap, and of course should be homemade, although refrigerator crusts are permissible. Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, March 11, at 1 p.m., RPL’s Local History and Genealogy group will welcome guest speaker Sara Oostdik, curator at the Sauk County Historical Museum. Oostdik will present a program on the preservation of family treasures, including photographs, books, and textiles such as wedding dresses and quilts. No registration is necessary to attend this program.

Wrapping up the week, author Dean Robbins will visit the library on Sunday, March 15, at 1 p.m. to discuss his new book, “Wisconsin Idols: 100 Heroes Who Changed the State, the World and Me.” The book offers a unique perspective on legendary figures with often surprising connections to the state, including Jackie Robinson, Oprah Winfrey, Harrison Ford, Elvis Presley, Orson Welles, Ann Landers and Joni Mitchell. With photos, video clips, and humorous anecdotes, the presentation establishes Wisconsin as a notably influential place: a crossroads for people who changed the world. There is no registration or fee required to attend the program.
