On the Same Page: Author presentation and craft swap part of next week’s programming
An author presentation and a craft swap are on RPL’s schedule for adults next week, while youth can explore their creativity during the Teen Time Creative Writing and Kids Club sessions. As a reminder, the library will be closed for a staff inservice on Monday, Feb. 16. The Mingle and Muse program will return on Monday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m., local author Dianne Vielhuber will present her book “Unraveling Together: Sharing the Threads of Grief.” Vielhuber, a writer and minister, earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural journalism from UW-Madison and a masters of divinity from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. She has served five Wisconsin United Methodist Churches over two decades. In the book, Vielhuber discusses grief as it pertains not only to the death of a loved one, but also as it relates to other losses in life. She emphasizes that grief is not intended to be carried alone, and is often handled differently by men and women. In time, if we are willing, we can hold grief and gratitude together. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. There is no fee or registration required to attend.
Later in the week, RPL is teaming up with St. John’s Ecumenical Caring for Creation Team to host the Second Annual Craft Swap. The Swap will be held in the Library on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. This is an opportunity for crafters to donate their unused supplies to other crafters, and perhaps pick up a few things they might need themselves. The program is not only fun and economical, but also keeps these items out of landfills. Items may be dropped off Friday afternoon between 12:15 and 4:45 p.m., or Saturday morning between 9 and 10 a.m. Pick up a brochure at the library to get a list of items that can be donated.
Next week’s Babygarten and Pre-School Storytimes are all about animals! Join Miss Steph on Wednesday at 10 a.m. for Babygarten, and Thursday or Friday at 10 a.m. for Preschool storytime. The upcoming Teen Time (grades 6-12) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday is devoted to Creative Writing, and After School Club (Grades K-5) on Thursday at 4 will feature an all-time kid favorite, Shrinky Dinks!
Recent visitors to the Reedsburg Public Library may have noticed some changes to the non-fiction section. In the past, children’s and adult non-fiction books were interfiled together according to Dewey Decimal number.
However, in anticipation of future expansion, staff is separating these books into children’s and adult collections. For the time being, children’s nonfiction books are all located on the bottom shelves of the non-fiction section.
