River Valley boy’s basketball team sees two loses

The River Valley High School boys varsity basketball team played two games last week. Monday night the boys traveled to Adams-Friendship to face the Green Devils. The Green Devils took the lead from the start and the Blackhawks could not catch up. At the end of the first half the score was 14-33 Adams Friendship. The final score had the Devils winning 55-47.  “I was a little disappointed in our effort in the first half in this game,” said River Valley head coach Luke Thatcher. “I felt like we tried to coast a little bit, but we didn’t shoot or take care of the ball very well. I was pleased with our response in the second half. Landen Alt shot the ball well, and we were able to claw back into the game.” Thursday the Blackhawks hosted the Hornets. Despite a close first half where the two teams tied 19-19, Richland Center managed a win with a final score of 27-24. Preston Hying lead the Hawks by putting up 15 points for Valley. Tyler Nachreiner added 11 points and Zach Gloudeman added 10.  “I was extremely proud of the way we competed in this game,” said Thatcher. “I thought our guys really played two halves of basketball for the first time this year. Our Achilles heel has continued to be taking care of the ball, and this game was no different. We must do a better job limiting turnovers if we want to be competitive with the better teams. I liked how we approached this game, and thought our focus was there. We played with a purpose, but we tip our hat to Center for making the plays when they needed to.” River Valley’s SWC record is 3-4 right now, with an overall record of 3-6. Monday the boys hosted Edgewood. Friday night they travel to Dodgeville to compete.
