Vanguards’ girls earn No. 2 seed
The Wisconsin Heights girls basketball team earned the No. 2 seed in its postseason pod.
Waterloo was the No. 1 seed, followed by the Vanguards, Palmyra-Eagle, Parkview, Deerfield and Johnson Creek. The Vanguards have a first round bye, then host the Palmyra-Eagle/Johnson Creek winner on Feb. 12 in a regional semifinal. The location for that game was unknown at press time.
The regional final is Feb. 13 at 7 p.m., while sectional semifinals and finals are Feb. 18 and 20.
The Vanguards also dropped a 53-46 overtime game to host Pecatonica last Friday. The teams were tied at 45 through regulation, but Heights went cold in the extra session and was outscored, 8-1.
Hanna King led the Vanguards with 16 points, while Kylee Doherty added eight.
Heights trailed, 25-22, at halftime, but rallied back and led, 45-41, with 1:49 to play. Pecatonica fought back, though, and forced overtime.
“We had a couple of costly turnovers that Pecatonica converted to tie the score to end regulation play,” Heights coach Bill Sullivan said.
• On deck: Heights was at Mineral Point Monday, then faced New Glarus Thursday.
