Sauk-Heights swimmers shine at sectionals

It’s been a wild, wacky year in the world of high school sports. It’s also now a historic one for the Sauk Prairie-Wisconsin Heights boys swimming team. The Eagles won the WIAA Division 2 Baraboo/Fort Atkinson Sectional last Saturday. That marked the first time in school history Sauk-Heights won the sectional title. The Eagles finished with 372 points to win the 11-team sectional. Monona Grove (307), Madison Edgewood (283), McFarland (256) and Baraboo (198) rounded out the top five. The state meet is Friday at Waukesha South High School at 6 p.m. and the following Sauk-Heights swimmers will take part: • 200 yard medley relay — Zach Guentherman, Sam King, Matthew Loy and Ryan Godwin • 200-yard IM — Zach Guentherman • 50-yard freestyle — Sam King and Matthew Loy • 100-yard butterfly — Adam Stecker • 100-yard freestyle — Evan Leece and Matthew Loy • 500-yard freestyle — Jackson Shavlik and Sam Beattie • 200-yard freestyle relay — Sam King, Sam Beattie, Adam Stecker and Matthew Loy • 100-yard backstroke — Zach Guentherman • 100-yard breaststroke — Sam King • 400-yard freestyle relay — Ryan Godwin, Evan Leece, Zach Guentherman and Sam Beattie At sectionals, the Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of King, Beattie, Stecker and Loy was first. Sauk-Heights’ 200-yard medley relay team of Guentherman, King, Loy and Godwin tied for second, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Godwin, Leece, Guentherman and Beattie was third. Loy won the 50-yard freestyle, while King was fourth and Godwin was fifth. Guentherman won the 200-yard IM, while Loy won the 100-yard freestyle, Leece was fourth and Godwin was sixth. And King won the 100-yard breaststroke. Beattie was third in the 500-yard freestyle, while Shavlik was fourth and Austin Kaukl was sixth. Guentherman was also third in the 100-yard backstroke. Leece, Beattie and Shavlik were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle. Stecker was also seventh in the 100-yard butterfly.
