Spring sports postponed

Sauk Prairie was supposed to have its first track and field meet of the season on Friday. All of the Eagles’ spring sports teams were going to be on the practice field by the start of next week. Not anymore, though.

Sauk Prairie’s season comes to an end

Just as in the regular season, it was a 50-50 split when Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team competed in postseason play. Seventh-seeded Sauk Prairie opened the week with a convincing 60-39 victory over Badger North Conference rival and 10th-seeded Baraboo in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal game on March 3.

End of the road

Wisconsin Heights’ trip to the postseason was a short one. The Vanguards’ boys basketball team fell to River Ridge, 56-48, in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal on March 3. Heights finished the year with an 11-12 record. Heights trailed, 26-21, at halftime and River Ridge kept the Vanguards at bay in the second half.

Kuhnau enjoys trip to state

The best is arguably yet to come for Sauk Prairie junior gymnast Heidi Kuhnau. Last Saturday, Kuhnau made her individual state tournament debut, recording a score of 8.483 points on the balance beam to finish 16th out of 28 competitors at the WIAA Division 2 individual state meet in Wisconsin Rapids.

Swimmers honored

The Sauk Prairie-Wisconsin Heights boys swimming and diving team recently finished in ninth place at the WIAA Division 2 state meet.  The team concluded their season with a banquet in the Leahy Theatre of Sauk Prairie High School. The following swimmers received awards: • Most Improved, Mason Breunig • Most Valuable, Matthew Loy

Breunig off to UW-Whitewater

Sauk Prairie senior Parker Breunig will attend UW-Whitewater this fall to study Business and compete in football for the Warhawks. “They’re a powerhouse program, and I’m very excited to be part of that,” Parker Breunig said. “The school is awesome, and the school of Business is one of the best in the nation.”

Hertzfeldt headed to Dubuque

Sauk Prairie senior Garrett Hertzfeldt will attend the University of Dubuque this fall to study Aviation to become a commercial pilot and play football for the Spartans. “It felt like the right place to be,” Heartfelt said. “it’s great to know I have four more years to play a sport I love.”

Sean McGann has fond memories of his basketball playing days in high school, especially when it came to the postseason. McGann, who is just completing his second season as head coach at Sauk Prairie, would like his players to create some fond memories of their own.

Heights hoping for playoff magic

Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball coach Zack Colby loves how things line up. Colby and his 11th-seeded Vanguards began the postseason Tuesday with a trip to sixth-seeded River Ridge for a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal. If the Vanguards won there, they’d head to third-seeded Mineral Point Friday at 7 p.m. for a regional semifinal.
