A game known as Chunkey Stones was created by Native Americans around 600 A.D. in the Cahokia region near what is now St. Louis, Missouri.

Meals on Wheels drivers are sought in Reedsburg, Baraboo, Sauk City and Prairie du Sac.

The Sauk County Aging & Disability Resource Center announced that it “is in great need” of people to deliver meals to the elderly and disabled.

The following meetings are scheduled and will be held at the West Square Building in Baraboo unless otherwise noted.

Prospective attendees should be aware that meetings may be postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19 or lack of business.

Fermentation Fest, notably the Farm/Art DTour, is still happening near Plain, Sauk City and Prairie du Sac.

The final day is Oct. 4.

This free, self-guided driving tour is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends.

Last week, La Valle Telephone Co-op invited Rep. Tony Kurtz, R-Wonewoc, and Sen. Howard Marklein, R-Spring Green, to tour a couple of sites where grants are being used to expand rural broadband. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has issued grants to improve Internet access in the region, and LTC is reaching out to area residents.

Driving through Sauk County you will see many of the old barns painted red. Why is that? Why not green or blue? There are numerous traditional reasons, or myths, for use of the red ocher color.

One reason put forth was so that cows could more easily find their way back to the barn. However, cows cannot see the color red.

Those who want to visit Devil’s Lake State Park should be advised that the Highway 136 bridge is closed for updates.

To reach the park, use Highway 113.
