Here we are in spring, the season of Easter and rebirth. Flowers are popping up, birds are courting, and people are buying vegetable seeds. Why then is this the time when we choose to butcher trees? Trees are, after all, one of the most powerful symbols of resurrection.

It happens all the time.

A member of the public or representative of the press will file a request under Wisconsin’s open records law, which applies to all state and local government entities. But instead of records, the requester gets a bill.

“The point of my original letter (March 18) had nothing to do with empathy,” wrote Dave Gorak in the April Fool’s Day issue of the Reedsburg Independent. He is certainly correct about that. His use of the term “Chinese virus” made not only his lack of empathy, but also his blatant racism, abundantly clear.
