On the Same Page: Friends of the book sale, closed dates, summer preview

The Friends of the Library Book Sale is currently in progress, ending on Sunday, May 17. Pick out a book and support the Friends ongoing efforts to raise supplemental funds for the library.
As a reminder, the library will close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, for staff training, and will be closed on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25.
At the library staff in-service on May 19, library employees will be finalizing plans for this summer’s programs for both youth and adults. The theme this summer is Unearth a Story, with reading challenges and a myriad of activities to be unearthed for all ages.
Reading Challenges begin on Monday, June 1. This year, youth from birth to those entering Grade 5 will receive a reading log to record minutes read, with the goal of reading, or being read to, for 20 minutes per day. Readers who record at least 100 minutes of reading each week get a turn at the prize wheel and a ticket to place in a drawing for end of the year prizes.
Teens entering Grades 6-12 and adults will work on their Reading Challenge Bingo cards. Teen bingo winners earn tickets for an end of the summer prize drawing, and adults work toward prizes distributed each week. Participating youth and teens are eligible for a free book at the end of each month this summer.
Adult programs for the summer include the regularly scheduled cookbook club on the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m., field trips for the Local History and Genealogy Group on the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m., book groups at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month, and select Wednesday afternoons for Mingle & Muse at 2 p.m. Guest speakers include author John Pearson on Monday, June 1, at 6 p.m., high school history instructor David Moon on July 13 at 6 p.m., and author Sherman Funmaker on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m.
All of our favorite summer programs for youth return this year, including Babygarten, Preschool Storytime, Loganville Little Library, Reedsburg Writers, Time Travelers’ Club, Discovery Days and Teen Time. Special events include the Summer Kickoff on Tuesday, June 16, with J & R Animal Aquatics in the library’s Community Room, Party in (City) Park on Saturday, July 25, and the Dinosaur Dimensions show, also in City park on Monday, Aug. 3.
Family Fun Nights also feature Dinosaur Mini-Golf, the iconic RPL worm races, the popular Color Run at Webb Park, and a “Dig Site” with Mr. Williams at the Hartje Center.
