Programs next week include an author talk, a health and fitness presentation, and the monthly cookbook club for adults. Youth services programs will highlight life on the farm, Butterfest float ideas, and Memorial Day.

This coming Sunday, May 3, at 1 p.m., author Tamara Dean will present What the Light is Hiding, a program adapted from the essay, “Night Vision,” which appears in her book, “Shelter and Storm: At Home in the Driftless.” Dean details what can be seen in the night, and the story of Jennie Harebo, a woman who defied the Rural Electrification Administration in 1937, refusing to allow power lines on her property. No registration is required.

On Monday, May 4, at 10 a.m., the Mingle and Muse program will feature Becky Peterson of Peterson & Company Fitness for the program, Stop Acting Your Age. How Our Mind Believes What Our Body Achieves.

According to Peterson, “Movement and strength are even more critical as the seasons of our lives change, and a little goes a long way. It’s never too late to start taking better care of our body to keep it stronger and keep it working for us. A stronger body also presents a stronger mind – and how we feel about that body, no matter our age, dictates our quality of life.”

No registration or fee is required.

RPL’s Cookbook Club on Wednesday, May 6, at 6 p.m. will feature the results of “Blind Date with a Cookbook.” Cookbook Club Facilitator Heidi Feller has wrapped a number of library cookbooks in paper. Choose one from the cookbook club display, unwrap, check out, and make a dish for the May 6 meeting. You may register for this program by calling the library or register online on the library’s calendar at www.reedsburglibrary.org.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, Teen Time participants (Grades 6-12) will start brainstorming ideas for the Library’s Butterfest Parade float. The theme this year is Churning Out Freedom: 250 Years of Red, White, and Butter, combining aspects of Reedsburg’s history with the 250th anniversary of the country.

Kid’s Club (Grades K-5) will be talking about Memorial Day and making cards to send to veterans at their meeting on Thursday, May 7, at 4 p.m. Next weeks’ Babygarten (Wednesday, May 5, at 10 a.m.) and Storytime (Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m.) will be about life on the farm.

Youth Services Librarians are already gearing up for the Summer Reading Program, which begins on Monday, June 15. This year’s theme is Unearth a Story. Several area school visits are scheduled this spring where Miss Steph and Miss Ashley will present information about the upcoming summer program, volunteer opportunities for teens, and prizes to be earned for reading.
