On the Same Page: Events next week at Reedsburg Public Library
A pie sale, an author presentation, a quilt show and a variety of youth programs are on the agenda for this coming week!
The Friends of the Reedsburg Public Library’s Annual Pi(e) Sale is this Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. until pies are sold out. Don’t forget to stop in the library and purchase some delicious sweet and savory pies, whole or by the slice, to support the Friends. If you would like to donate a pie, you may drop it off on Friday, March 13, from 1 to 4:45 p.m. or on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The pie sale itself will not open 10:00 a.m. The proceeds of this pie sale are going toward guest speakers and performers for the summer.
“Wisconsin Idols” is the topic of the presentation by author and journalist Dean Robbins on Sunday, March 15, at 1 p.m. Robbins moved to Wisconsin at age 23 with a single thought on his mind: Harry Houdini. His initial journey to Appleton to investigate Houdini’s origins resulted in several trips around the state to find out more about famous individuals with connections to Wisconsin. The result was Robbins’ book “Wisconsin Idols: 100 Heroes Who Changed the State, The World and Me.” The book offers a unique perspective on a number of legendary figures including Jackie Robinson, Oprah Winfrey, Harrison Ford, Elvis Presley, Orson Welles, and Reedsburg’s own Agnes Moorehead. With photos, video clips and humorous anecdotes, the presentation establishes Wisconsin as a crossroads for people who changed the world. There is no registration or fee required to attend the program.
Becky Ziegler Baker of Red Dot Quilt Supplies in Reedsburg will be the guest speaker at RPL’s Mingle and Muse program on Monday, March 16, at 10 a.m. Baker started hand sewing and creating at a very young age, and later moved on to machine sewing, and then quilting. She has been a quilter for 30 years, and a member of the Reedsburg Area Quilt Guild for 15 years. In November of 2024, Baker’s dream came true when she opened her own store. Baker’s program is a Trunk Show of quilts highlighting the different levels of skill and time involved for each style. The quilts are mostly those she has made, from beginning to advanced, and also some vintage quilts made by relatives and friends. Come to be inspired! There is no fee or registration required to attend this program.
Babygarten on Wednesday, March 18, at 10 a.m. is all about colors! Preschool storytime on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m. will feature stories about St. Patrick’s Day. Creative writing is the theme for Teen Time on Tuesday, March 17, at 4 p.m. Participants will write a “character debate.” Art stations are on the schedule for Kids Club on Thursday, March 19, at 4 p.m.
