On the agenda for adults in the coming days are the Craft Swap, Mingle and Muse, and the February Book Discussion. Young children will enjoy a week devoted to Pete the Cat, while Teen Time participants will have a Game Day, and After School Club students will build with Legos.
The Second Annual Craft Swap hosted by RPL, together with St. John’s Lutheran Church Ecumenical Caring for Creation Team, is this Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The Craft Swap is a great opportunity to donate your extra craft supplies for others to use, and to pick up a few things that you may need. Some examples of welcome donations include yarn, fabric, scrapbooking papers, drawing supplies and jewelry making tools. Items may be dropped off for the event on Friday, Feb. 20, between 12:15 and 4:45 p.m. or on Saturday between 9 and 10 a.m. Volunteers will arrange all donations, and the Community Room will be open for browsing and picking up items at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
According to Craft Swap organizer Wendy VanDusen, the idea originated with her own hometown library’s event in south Milwaukee. She immediately recognized the possibility of helping people reduce and reuse, so that fewer items eventually end up in the landfill. Last year, VanDusen estimates that approximately 85 percent of the materials donated found a new home, and the rest has been passed along to other groups over time. Her favorite part of the Craft Swap is spending time with other crafters, and seeing their eyes light up when they discover new treasures available for free.
On Monday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. the Mingle and Muse program for adults will feature Creative Writing. Join Assistant Library Director Anne Howe for an open writing and revision session. She will have a few writing prompts available for those looking for ideas. People are also welcome to bring their own writing for feedback from others.
On Tuesday, Feb.24, RPL’s Monthly Book Club will meet at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to talk about Wisconsin author Nickolas Butler’s latest book, “A Forty Year Kiss.” Copies to check out are still available at the library. If you would like to participate in either of the sessions via Zoom, contact the library so that you may obtain a Zoom link prior to the program.
On Tuesday at 4 p.m., Teen Time (Grades 6-12) is all about games. Enjoy playing Mario Kart and board games with friends. On Thursday, the After School Club (Grades K-5) will be building with legos. Students may create their own designs, or follow specific designs provided.
