The Library’s new Mingle and Muse program will have its inaugural session this Monday, Jan. 19, at 10 a.m. Facilitated by Assistant Library Director Anne Howe, the program is a new opportunity for adults to get together weekly to discuss a topic or participate in an activity in a relaxed atmosphere. No registration is required.
When asked about her inspiration for the Mingle and Muse group, Howe commented that in the few months she has been here, she has had several requests for a casual program for adults. She wanted to offer something a little different from the traditional Monday Fun Day activities.
She adds that, “as an educator, I’ve been involved in a variety of groups and have pulled from those experiences to create a weekly gathering for adults to connect and share experiences and possibly explore a new topic they haven’t considered before.”
Those new topics include the subjects for the Jan. 19 program. At the first session, participants will discuss and create a Vision Board for 2026. Howe will bring a variety of example boards to preview and then you may develop your own. The Vision Board is a unique poster of 2026 aspirations, based on your individual interests, goals, dreams and plans. All materials will be provided.
In addition to creating a Vision Board, participants are invited to “taste books,” by examining a selection of new books in RPL’s collection. Library staff choose, order and receive approximately 150 new books each month including nonfiction, fiction and various genres, in regular and large print. A recording page will be available for you to write your thoughts about each book you “taste” so you have it for future reference. You can check out books of interest or put them on your “To Read List.”
When asked about future sessions of Mingle and Muse, Howe commented that she is entertaining a myriad of ideas. While she plans on facilitating each meeting, she is open to individuals from the community leading a session. Upcoming events already on the agenda include a Winter Self Care session on Jan. 26, which will feature chair yoga, a Lunar New Year Celebration in February, and a garden topic or seed swap for March.
Howe adds that, “really the sky’s the limit and any ideas you have are welcomed and appreciated! You don’t even have to lead the session for your idea to be included.”
