19 kids learn importance of flying

The Reedsburg Municipal Airport had a special first of its kind this summer.

EAA Chapter 931 held a Young Eagles Rally on July 10, where 19 children were introduced to the basics of aviation. Pilots Mathieu Labs and Alan Taylor took turns taking the kids on flights to and from Lake Redstone. After the flights, the children received a certificate and logbook, which will be entered into the world’s largest logbook in Oshkosh, home of the EAA.

Labs, who is also a Young Eagles coordinator, called it an exceptional experience for children.

“It’s amazing to see the kid’s expressions when they tell their parents about the flight, and we hope one of them will be inspired to take the next step to become a pilot. The kids are able to see it is possible because they can take the flight controls in the air,” he said in a statement.

The event was organized by volunteers and support from EAA Chapter 931, the airport and the Reedsburg Area Flying Club.
