RV grad Seth Liegel takes national title

Shane Liegel, a 2019 River Valley High School graduate, earned national champion honors at the 2021 NWCA Division III Nationals. Liegel was named an NWCA All-American in the tournament. For the 2020-2021 wrestling season Liegel wrestled in the 184 pound weight class and compiled a record 14 – 1, including six falls. In his time with River Valley Liegel won three straight state titles. “Shane constantly is the hardest worker in the room,” said River Valley co-head wrestling coach Dan Machovec. “Shane winning the national championship was no surprise, if you know him. Everyone knew Shane could do it, he just needed the opportunity.” Machovec said that Liegel has been working to give back to the community that he grew up in, including video conferencing with the River Valley High School wrestling team this past season and helping out with local wrestling camps, including one coming up July 10th with River Valley.  (Photo by Adam Rang of AJR Photography)
