Coronavirus vaccines may be more widely available in March

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services hopes to expand the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine next month.

As long as supplies are available, the department hopes to open up vaccines to education and child care professionals, some public-facing workers, non-frontline health care personnel, staff and residents in congregate living and individuals enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs.

There is no waiting list yet for these individuals but it could open up on or after March 1 if all goes well.

Those who are currently eligible include frontline health care workers, emergency, fire and police personnel, adults 65 and older and residents and staff in long-term care facilities.

Those who haven’t already made arrangements with their medical provider may go through the Sauk County Public Health Department for an appointment. Otherwise, they can reach out to their local medical outlet to see about getting the vaccine. Providers, besides the health department, include Reedsburg Area Medical Center, SSM Health in Baraboo and Sauk Prairie Healthcare.

Individuals should not sign up for multiple lists; stick with only one provider.
