Sauk Prairie’s hockey team remains unbeaten

The good times keep rolling for Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team. The Eagles won all three of their games last week and improved to 8-0 on the season. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week: • Sauk Prairie 7, Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston 1 — Ethan Tranel and Luke Mast both had two goals to power the Eagles to a win on Jan. 12. Nick Mast added four assists for Sauk Prairie. Erik Peterson gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead on an assist from Tranel midway through the first period. In the second period, Tranel and Mast scored in the first six minutes as Sauk Prairie stretched its lead to 3-0. Reedsburg/Dells/Mauston closed within 3-1 midway through the second period. But Brodie Trollop scored at 15:51 on assists from Tranel and Luke Mast to make it 4-1. Then in the third period, Luke Mast had a power play goal at 13:17 on assists from Hakon Peterson and Nick Mast to make it 5-1. Peterson scored a power play goal just 46 seconds later on assists from Nick Mast and Peterson, then Tranel scored at 14:39 on assists from Luke Mast and Nick Mast to finish things off. Kaden Stracke was stellar in goal with 17 saves in 18 attempts (.944) and notched the win. • Sauk Prairie 5, Baraboo/Portage 2 — Micah Hanson had a pair of goals and Hakon Peterson had two assists as the Eagles cruised on Jan. 14. Peterson and Hanson both had first period goals as Sauk Prairie raced to a 2-0 lead. Caeben Schomber assisted on Peterson’s goal, while Erik Peterson and Hakon Peterson assisted on Hanson’s goal. Baraboo/Portage pulled within 2-1 after the second period. The Eagles finished things off in the third period, though. Hanson had an even strength goal to make it 3-1. And after Baraboo/Portage closed within 3-2, the Eagles scored twice in a three-minute window. Luke Mast had an even strength goal at 9:06 to make it 4-2. Then Nick Mast scored on an assist from Hakon Peterson at 12:10 to make it 5-2. Kaden Stracke had 15 saves and picked up the win. • Sauk Prairie 4, Aquinas/Holmen 0 — Brooks McInerney had 15 saves and earned the shutout win on Jan. 16.
