Wrestlers in quad dual hosted by Prairie du Chien

The River Valley High School boys varsity wrestling team traveled to Prairie du Chien last Friday night for a quad dual with three other teams. River Valley faced Lancaster, Prairie Du Chien and Richland Center. In the dual with Lancaster the Flying Arrows won 60-18. In the dual with the Prairie du Chien Blackhawks, Prairie won 57-19. In the dual with Richland Center, River Valley won 50-15.  River Valley went into the night knowing that it would give up four matches to forfeit. “It’s very difficult to win dual meets when you’re giving up 24 points in forfeits before you wrestle a single match,” said River Valley co-head coach Dan Machovec. “The only way to overcome that is work hard to not get pinned and we are still trying to work on that.” “Lancaster gave us fits earlier in the year and I was truly hoping we could show some improvement against them this time,” said Machovec. “The score doesn’t show it, but we did actually show some quality improvement. The aggressiveness from our feet compared to last time was obvious. We may have lost, but they have a very strong team. I felt like we adjusted after a loss to Lancaster and came out swinging against PdC. They are both such great wrestlers. Jimmy was in on a shot early and just couldn’t finish it. From there Donovan stopped a lot of Jennings shot attempts. We will continue to watch that match and learn from it.
