Reedsburg routs Eagles

Clay Iverson knows there will be good times and bad. So, when the latter come — like they have to start the 2020 season — Sauk Prairie’s football coach understands the importance of steadiness and dependability. The Eagles fell to 0-2 last Friday after suffering a 41-6 loss at Reedsburg. And Iverson, who’s in his second year as Sauk Prairie’s boss, is trying to maintain an evenness in his program. “Well we want to stay consistent,” Iverson said. “We are going to work to get better. We have that same mindset when we play great, so that message won’t change.” There’s no question Reedsburg could be one of the more difficult teams the Eagles face this season. The Beavers outgained Sauk Prairie, 402-125. Reedsburg held a 14-6 edge in first downs. The Beavers averaged 7.6 yards per play and won the turnover battle, 3-0. Reedsburg led, 7-0, after the first quarter then pushed that advantage to 28-0 by halftime. The Beavers made it 35-0 early in the third quarter to start a running clock and cruised home from there. “Give them a lot of credit. They were on the attack all night,” Iverson said of the Beavers. “Their physical style of play wears on you.   “With so many of our kids playing both ways, and not having a ton of experience that can be a challenge. Reedsburg played very well.” Iverson still believes his team can play extremely well themselves in this truncated season. Sauk Prairie lacks experience after ending a 12-year playoff drought a year ago. But the Eagles now have faced two difficult early-season tests that should help them prepare for what lies ahead. “Again, there are no magic drills or speeches or anything like that,” Iverson said. “Everyone in the program has to learn and improve. That is our daily goal.” • On deck: Sauk Prairie is at Watertown Friday at 7 p.m. The Goslings lost a 17-14 nailbiter to Madison Edgewood in Week 1, then edged Portage, 31-26 last week. “Watertown is athletic and aggressive,” Iverson said. “They are well balanced in their offense and play down hill on defense.”     Oct. 2 REEDSBURG 41, SAUK PRAIRIE 6 Sauk Prairie ….. 0  0  0  6 — 6 Reedsburg ….. 7  21  7  6 — 41 R: Bestor 4 run (G.
