Girls spikers enjoy perfect week

Deep. Talented. Experienced. Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team seems to have it all this fall. And the Eagles put those qualities on full display last week. Sauk Prairie won matches over both Watertown and Portage during the week. The Eagles then won the Richland Center Triangular on Saturday. “We had a nice week full of wins,” Eagles coach Amy Schlimgen said. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week. • Sauk Prairie 3, Watertown 0 — The Eagles opened the week with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 win over Watertown on Sept. 22. Junior Aida Shadewald led the way with 17 kills, nine digs and two aces, while senior Olivia Breunig had 14 assists, six aces and six kills. Senior Kaitlyn Brickl had 19 digs and 14 good serves. “She was great in the back row,” Schlimgen said of Brickl. Junior Alia Schlimgen had 11 digs, 11 good serves, three assists and an ace, while sophomore Jenna Pistono had 12 assists and four digs. Junior Olivia Paukner added four kills and two blocks, sophomore Maggie Hartwig had five kills and one block, sophomores Anni Braund and Alexis Klemm both had two kills, and junior Makenzie Breunig added one kill. • Sauk Prairie 3, Portage 0 — The Eagles rolled to a 25-9, 25-12, 25-12 win on Sept. 24. Shadewald finished with nine kills and three blocks, while Paukner had seven kills and five blocks. Olivia Breunig had four kills, 10 assists and four aces, while Pistono had five assists and two aces. Schlimgen had 11 digs, four assists and three aces, while Brickl had five digs and four aces. Klemm added four assists and Braund had three kills. Makenzie Breunig had two blocks and Hartwig had two kills.   RICHLAND CENTER  TRIANGULAR • Sauk Prairie 3, Westby 0 — The Eagles opened with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-22 win over Westby. Shadewald led the way with 11 kills and four aces, while Olivia Breunig had nine kills, 11 assists, eight digs and six aces. Hartwig had seven kills and Braund added six kills. Schlimgen had 12 digs and was terrific in serve receive, while Brickl had 12 digs and provided stellar serving. Paukner added four kills, while Pistono had 19 assists and three aces. • Sauk Prairie 3, Richland Center 0 — The Eagles upended host Richland Center, 26-24, 25-14, 25-11, to win the triangular. “It started with a close set that may have taken the wind out of their sails and we started playing some great ball — strong hitting and serving and great defensive reactions,” Amy Schlimgen said!  Brickl was the serving hero in the second game, dialing up three aces as Sauk Prairie ran off eight straight points. Paukner then served up 12 straight points in the third game, highlighted by four aces. “It was fun to watch the girls all play so well as a team and stay strong all day,” Amy Schlimgen said. Shadewald had a big match with 14 kills, 12 digs and three blocks, while Olivia Breunig had nine kills, 17 assists and two aces. Paukner had three kills, six aces and two blocks, while Hartwig had four kills and four blocks. Pistono had nine assists, one ace and 10 good serves, Schlimgen had 16 digs and was outstanding receiving serves.
