DeForest edges Eagles

Sauk Prairie’s doubles teams were at their best. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they couldn’t break through in singles play. The result was an exciting 4-3 loss to DeForest on Sept. 22. Sauk Prairie won all three doubles matches, but the Norskies won all four singles matches. “Our doubles teams came out swinging tonight with each team recording at least one 6-0 set,” Sauk Prairie coach Heather Slosarek said. “The teams did a great job taking hold of the offense throughout the match.” Sauk Prairie’s top doubles team of Hannah Helt and Camdyn Kastelitz posted a 6-0, 6-2 win. At No. 2, the Eagles’ duo of Naomi Breunig and Cassie Ziegler rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win. And at No. 3, Sauk Prairie’s Faith Holler and Ava Andres rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 win. The Eagles lost all four singles matches, but had some spirited matches. At No. 4, DeForest’s Kaiya Hegarty edged Sauk Prairie’s Devin O’Connor, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. “Devin O’Connor put up a great fight all the way through a close third set,” Slosarek said. “She played an aggressive game that had her opponent blocking back shots in the end. I’m glad to see that she went for the winners, even if the score didn’t fall in her favor this time.” And at No. 2 singles, DeForest’s Lauren Armstrong edged Sauk Prairie’s Anna Ballweg, 6-4, 6-3. “Anna Ballweg continues to build her game,” Slosarek said. “She was going toe-to-toe with her opponent throughout the entire match, and it was an entertaining match to watch!”   Sept. 22 DeForest 4, Sauk Prairie 3 Singles No. 1 — Samantha Fuchs, DeForest, def.
