Letters to the editor

Libraries are the currently the center of our communities, and I am writing to encourage everyone to join and support their local library. In this time of division and crisis, supporting our local library is one thing we can all agree on as important and non-partisan. We are incredibly lucky to have a small but fantastic library in Black Earth that serves so many different kinds of people in so many ways. Every library has a “Friends of ….” organization; I hope you join yours.     Patricia B McConnell Black Earth   I was on the Sauk City Bridge on the morning of Saturday, August 22 at a rally to support the U.S. Postal Service, organized by Indivisible Sauk Prairie. I am happy to report that the response from people driving across the bridge was overwhelmingly upbeat and positive. However, there were a few notable exceptions I would like to address. Firstly, there was a man who drove by not once, but twice, yelling “Marxists, Marxists” and something else I could not hear. I am certainly not a Marxist and find it ironic that it is Donald Trump who has expressed his great admiration for communist/Marxist dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, both long-time adversaries of the United States. I wish this person would contact Donald Trump and ask him where his allegiance lies. Also, the U.S. Postal Service is as American as apple pie. Then there was the young man who thought it was clever to cause his large pickup truck to belch black smoke as he drove past.  This was obnoxious and no way to express an opinion. I’m sure he wouldn’t appreciate it if HE was the one standing on the bridge and someone did that to him.  Lastly, there was the young man stuck in traffic briefly who yelled repeatedly, “Trump 2020,” which would have been OK except he then added something along the line of “If you don’t like it, move to Dane County. Dane County sucks.”  I guess he hasn’t realized that Sauk County does not exist solely for him and people who agree with his beliefs. This is still America, isn’t it?  (I live in rural Dane County and it does NOT suck.)   Wendy Carlson Town of Roxbury
