The King Review   The juggernaut in streaming that is Netflix has made a film that feels very much like a Shakespeare classic. Now, those two things may sound like a very strange mix, but let me tell you why The King is one of Netflix’s best films. The King tells the story of King Henry V, played by Timothée Chalamet, and how he comes to take the throne of England in the 15th century. After his father King Henry IV falls ill, Prince Henry V must learn to give up his constant partying and learn to become one of the greatest kings England has ever seen. This was not necessarily a film I was interested in seeing. Being a historical biopic about the royalty in England, I thought that it would be a very boring and drawn out movie that wouldn’t grab my attention. I was completely wrong. The King held my attention from beginning to end. I found myself becoming more and more invested in King Henry V and his journey to becoming respected as King of England. He is played incredibly well by Timothée Chalamet, who is one of the biggest up-and-coming actors of this generation. The writing in this film and the way the story is told felt very Shakespearean. I felt as though I was watching an adaptation of one of his works. And for many people that is going to sound very boring. A long historical drama about English royalty that feels reminiscent of the works of William Shakespeare. Believe me, I understand how uninterested many people may be based on a description like that. All I can say is I thought the same way, and I came out loving this movie. There wasn’t a single part of this movie I didn’t come away really enjoying. While a movie such as The King may sound uninteresting and not appealing to most, all I can say is to give it a chance. This film is truly something special and I think that most people can find some aspect in this movie to truly appreciate, if not the film as a whole.
