“If music be the food of love, play on,” – Shakespeare

The River Valley Elementary School Spring concert last week was the perfect finale to the school year. Elementary music teacher Nick Ehlinger, left, directed the performance of a lifetime that hit every high note. First, second, third and fourth graders poured their hearts into every song, from Queen’s We Will Rock You to Green Day’s Time of Your Life to Kermit the Frog’s Rainbow Connection whose beauty brought tears to many eyes. To cap it all, a surprise visit from Bucky Badger and University of Wisconsin Fifth Quarter style medley almost brought the house down. The concert was the last performance as the school’s current grade configuration. Next year, the elementary school will hold Pre-Kindergarten (4K), Kindergarten, first and second grades; third through sixth grade will be at the middle school, to be call the intermediate school; seven and eight will be located within the high school and called the junior high; and ninth through 12th grades as the high school. Merrimac Community School participates in National Donate Your Hair Day

National Donate Your Hair Day takes place at Merrimac Community School every two years. Staff use it as an opportunity to teach the children it doesn’t have to cost anything to help someone else. This year students were invited to have their hair cut. Three students, two staff members, and one parent took part in this amazing event. It’s no wonder why Merrimac Community School is once again a Certified Kindness School. Pictured, front row left to right: Amelia Wolf, Olivia Bourgeois, Rose Gagnon.
