PHOTOS: Students win Ag in Classroom Essay Contest

Local winners were part of this year’s Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom Annual Essay Contest. The competition was open to fourth- and fifth-grade students. This year’s topic was A Wisconsin Tree and Me: How Trees Grow Food & Fiber. The winning fourth-grade essay came from Gretchen Fulk of Prairie Ridge Intermediate School.

On Aug. 14, Reedsburg VFW Auxiliary Post 1916 members in Reedsburg presented a check as a donation for school supplies to St. Peter's Lutheran School and a check as a donation for school supplies to Sacred Heart Catholic School, both in Reedsburg.

Watch for children and school buses as students get ready to head back to classroom

Another school year is set to begin, and the Wisconsin State Patrol is reminding drivers to be alert and avoid distractions to keep kids safe as they travel to and from school. Traffic patterns change when school is in session, so be sure to plan ahead and watch for pedestrians and school buses.

Sauk Prairie School District welcomes new educators


The Sauk Prairie School District welcomed new teachers, school psychologists, counselors, and other educators to its team during a two-day training on August 18th and 19th. The new staff bring to the district a wealth of experience including a combined 164.5 years working in education. Sauk Prairie Superintendent Jeff Wright shared, “We are excited to welcome these talented educators to our team. Some are in their first years as teachers and others have taught for decades. River Valley School Board honors Nora Moe


The River Valley School Board highlighted the devotion and efforts of Nora Moe at their July board meeting in the July “Community Spotlight.” The award recognizes community members who have served above and beyond their role for having a positive impact on River Valley staff and students.  Moe is a resident of Spring Green and has been the local crossing guard nearest the school campus for the past 11 years. Prior to that she was the elementary custodian for 13 years.  “We are very thankful for Nora and her devotion to the community, staff, and student body.  She is respected, appreciated, and helps to make the River Valley School District a better place.  Her smiling face is one of the first things our students see as they come to the campus in the morning, and everyone appreciates her incredible positivity,” said district administrator/ superintendent Loren Glasbrenner. The Weston School District will hold an open house.

It will take place from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21.

This is an opportunity to meet classroom teachers, check out the building and gather information before the new school year begins.

School District of Reedsburg continues to budget as new year approaches

The doors may not be open yet at its buildings, but the School District of Reedsburg has already started financially planning for the months ahead.

The School Board passed a preliminary budget in July, but, as always, those figures will change.

Sauk Prairie’s Mental Health Grant a success after 2 years

A host of experts from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute presented at last Monday’s Sauk Prairie School Board meeting about the status and progress of year two of the School-Based Mental Health Grant. Introducing facts and data, they left the board feeling confident about the program.
