Naturally Speaking: Evergreens abound

A fern frond and bittersweet fruits may make a nice card photo or table decoration. Powdered sugar can serve as indoor snow for a day. (Photo by Jerry Davis)

Many, but not all, conifers are evergreens and have needles or scale leaves (red and white cedar).

There are other evergreens, too, including some of the ferns, club mosses and mosses, which work as a short-term display.

A few of the alien plants (garlic mustard for example) are green throughout the winter.
