Libraries undergo catalog upgrade

Locations in the Winding Rivers Library System have received a catalog upgrade.

The improvement applies to libraries in Vernon, Juneau, Monroe, Jackson, Trempealeau, Buffalo and La Crosse counties.

The new integrated library system is Polaris. It integrates a modern mobile app, website tool and patron communication platform.

Republican, Independents challenge incumbent Baldwin for Senate seat

Democrat Tammy Baldwin will have some competition this fall.

Baldwin, who has been a senator since 2013, is running against Republican challenger Eric Hovde. Also on the ballot are Phil Anderson of the Libertarian Party and Thomas Leager of the America First Party.

The General Election is Nov. 5.

Historical Perspective: Pagoda-style service stations

During the early 20th Century, gasoline-powered automobiles became the primary mode of transportation, as the horse and buggy era came to a close. To provide gas for these new cars, early filling stations consisted of pumps placed outside hardware stores. Very utilitarian but not very distinctive.

RAMC ranks 44th out of 100 on Best Places to Work list

Reedsburg Area Medical Center has moved up the ranks on Modern Healthcare’s list of Best Places to Work in Healthcare.

RAMC ranked 44th of 100 locations.

This is the fourth time RAMC has made the list, previously landing at positions 48, 43 and 38.

This year Reedsburg Public Library will celebrate its 125th year of service to the community. The library staff would like to extend an invitation to all to a special presentation, open house and refreshments next Wednesday, October 23, at 6 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.

Henley challenges Kurtz for newly drawn District 41 seat

Incumbent Tony Kurtz, R-Wonewoc, will have a challenger for the new District 41 Assembly seat.

Julia Henley, a democrat from Blue River in Richland County, is running in the newly redrawn district.
