Sauk Prairie Veterans of Foreign Wars Lachmund Cramer Post 7694 conducted a flag retirement and burning ceremony on Saturday, March 14. Before placing the approximately 1,000 American Flags in the memorial fire, a special verbal introit--a piece of music, typically a psalm or hymn, sung or played at the beginning of a worship service--was conducted collectively by past Post Commander Steve Haag on the left, present Senior Post Commander Jim Keys in the middle and Post Chaplain Kevin Emshoff on the right.
In the background is the intense fire to ensure that the American Flags are disposed in an orderly and respectful and complete manner.
There are two drop off locations in Sauk Prairie for American Flags to be collected for retirement: one each at the entrances to Hansen’s IGA Market in Prairie du Sac and the Pi8ggle Wiggly in Sauk City.
