Naturally Speaking: Deer sheds


White-tailed bucks have shed their antlers by now, meaning you might be able to find one, if you are very lucky. Don’t get too excited if you find two, though. The odds of them both coming from the same deer are extremely low, as deer don’t drop both antlers at the same exact time. (Photo by Jerry Davis)

White-tailed buck deer have shed (dropped) their antlers by now. Squirrels and other rodents have found some and began gnawing on them, likely to get some of the minerals contained in the hard tissue.  Foxes, coyotes and a few other mammals have also found and carried away the left and right parts of the rack.
