Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service has received a significant donation from United Cooperative to purchase a new ambulance and Stryker PowerLoad system.

The $1,000 donation will go toward buying the new setup, which will automatically lift stretchers into the vehicle. The system is intended to make transport easier for not only the patient but also rescue crews, as it can reduce back injuries.

“Sprains and strains of the neck and back are the most common injuries to EMTs,” said Director Josh Kowalke, in a statement. “This donation helps provide very important tools to be used for many years to come.”

This is the same system that Cazenovia Ambulance just installed in its second vehicle.

The cooperative wanted to help after finding out that Reedsburg Ambulance was looking to improve its setup.

“United Cooperative is owned by area farmers. We value the emergency personnel in each county where our members’ live and where we do business. Each year the cooperative’s community giving touches many rural health and safety initiatives,” said David Cramer, cooperative president and chief executive officer.

Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service covers about 20,000 people and 350 square miles of territories in Sauk and Juneau Counties.
